On the rollercoaster of life
Jan. 8th, 2008 12:34 pmUp: Started new job yesterday. Well received all around, got some decent work accomplished.
Down: Songbird has to leave today. Spent much of last evening with her wrestling with updates to her laptop's software and a recalcitrant Symantec Norton product in particular, as well as waiting for her to finish last-minute shopping and online chores.
Up: My alma mater now owns the national champion men's Division 1-A football team in the NCAA, as of last night.
Down: SB goes back to a still-riot-torn country halfway around the globe to live and work in half an hour.,,and God alone knows how long it will be before we see each other again.
Up: GAFilk is this weekend!
Down: I'm likely going to it with a throat still raw and sore from two solid months of bronchitis which two successive courses of medicine have been unable to dislodge.
Who put me on this damn rollercoaster?

Date: 2008-01-08 06:54 pm (UTC)There is no joy in Muddville;
Mighty Casey has struck out.
(If you want a clue as to my personal state re the loss last night, see the post in my journal date-out-of-order-shifted to 2009. Can't say more; I'm working at OSU now.)

Date: 2008-01-08 10:45 pm (UTC)I feel for you both.
Like the rest of us, you signed on with the blood of your umbilical cord. (Sigh.) May you have more ups than downs, and bigger ones, and longer-lasting, and more important.

Date: 2008-01-09 01:03 am (UTC)Hug the Songbird for me before she takes flight.
Not down for the count yet.
Date: 2008-01-09 04:12 am (UTC)It was great to meet you. Hope things will stabilize for you starting with this new position you've got. It's a rare thing in the contracting world to work the same gig twice, let alone get asked back to a place that's let you go. They're usually afraid that you won't accept, so having gone out on that limb, they're likely to go out of their way to make you want to stay. Felicdades.
I'm glad you and m had the extra time together. Try to savor that for a while before giving in to loneliness. That's why we have memories, so that happiness doesn't end so abruptly.
As for the situation in Kenya, she knows, and has chosen the situation she's going to. If you need help tying her up and keeping her off the flight, just call and I'll be right there. But I'm pretty sure she'd kick both our asses for trying. Chin up. If she can do it, we can at least cheer her on.
Hope to see you guys again when there's more time and things aren't so hectic for you.
Happy New Year. ;-)
