This bugs me. Parts of it are interesting and accurate, and work to explain elements of geeky behavior to non-geeks. Parts...are attempts to explain the still-inaccurate stereotypes about geeks interacting. Now, maybe it's that I'm a high-functioning geek (family joke), but the bits about, especially, this need for a "transition layer" bug the ever-living hell out of me.
My impression was that this article is assuming that the "geek" described is the companion of a non-geek, and that her friends would be even less geek-tolerant, so she would have to act as a go-between.
I also love how it assumes all geeks are male...
Would have been interesting to explore the geek/geek dating dynamic... but I doubt the author knows of the existance of geeks with a matched set of chromosomoes...
it's an amusing read made more tolerable if you force yourself to think of it as completely tongue-in-cheek.
