My pal [livejournal.com profile] jrittenhouse has posted a picture you may find amusing...
All hail Squat!

The New York Times' token conservative pundit David Brooks, in a column syndicated today, points out how ludicrous the John McCain/Sarah Palin campaign's claim on being "agents of change" is, given the party's love affair with hoary policies that emphasize rugged individualism at the cost of the social contract.

And last Sunday, GOP plotmeister Karl Rove hisownself was forced to publicly admit—on Fox News, no less—that McCain had "gone a step too far" in his negative campaigning.

When even your own guys are calling you out, buddy-boy and -girl, you got problems.

And on a side note, one of the few salutary consequences of this past weekend's devastating strike on Wall Street by Hurricane Subprime has been that both the major-party presidential candidates have finally been forced to stop obsessing over porcine cosmetics and talk about one of the two biggest issues the electorate cares about this year: the (tanking) economy. (The other is national security in general and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in particular, in case you were wondering.) With the two government-created mortgage firms Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac now taken over by Uncle Sugar, Bear Stearns and now Lehman Brothers both gone tits-up, Merrill Lynch forced into a shotgun wedding with Bank of America and AIG on life support—and the Dow, the NASDAQ and S&P all nose-diving like McCain's old F-14 into the rice paddies as a result—even the gentleman from Arizona can no longer ignore Bill Clinton and James Carville's famous election-year dictum, "It's the economy, stupid!"
