A hippo, a birdie and two ewes to [personal profile] braider! May you go on singing for many more.

From the Wired Blog Network, via the Inquirer:
Creation Science Nonprofit Demands YouTube Ban Anti-Creationism Group's Videos
Someone better pass the word to Roy Zimmerman—his "Creation Science 101" music video may be next...

UPDATE, 6:36p:
thanks to [personal profile] shelleybear, I found this entertaining video answer to the Hovind group's actions and YouTube's response. Some rap music does suck (as is true of every genre)...but this doesn't.

I got my brand-spanking-new U.S. passport in today's mail.

Not even two months after submitting the application at the post office near where I work.

Without even having paid the extra fee for "expedited" processing. (See, sweetie? Told you it wasn't necessary. :-) )

After more than two decades, I finally have a valid passport again. At long, long last I am no longer a prisoner of my country's borders. More importantly, now I can make plans to go see the Songbird in Nairobi this December without having to worry about the one thing happening that could kibosh the whole trip—namely, the passport not arriving in time.

God bless you under all Her many names, all you State Dept. employees who piled on (and piled up overtime) to get the backlog under control; looks like it's working.

UPDATE, Sat. 9/22, 6:30p: The old passport got sent back to me along with my birth certificate; it just arrived today. Interesting to compare the old 1970s version with the new one; the latter has lots of pretty color and background pictures and pithy quotes from Great Americans in History throughout...and damned if I can figure out where they hid the RFID microchip all the new ones are reported to contain. I also look even worse in the current photo than I did in my teenage one–which I had not thought possible. Aargh. Oh, well, at least I can travel abroad now.

I have just found that [profile] a_phoenix_afire had friended me, but I had not returned the favor; I have now done so. This may either be a salutary challenge to my deeply held political views and personal beliefs...or a major mistake.

With thanks to Seattle's most delightfully Demented DJ, Bob Rivers, and his gang at Twisted Radio for the reference: Meet a man with way more stomach for rejection, harassment and even potential criminal prosecution than I could ever imagine having. Talk about being on a mission from God...if your God is a coffeeholic. (And the song itself ain't half bad, people!)

DaVido's "Java Jitter" Starbucks Rejection Tour video

As someone who's spent an inordinate amount of time in Starbucks Coffee shops lately (due to the now-resolved home DSL outage), not to mention being a fiend for the bean since childhood sipping my daddy's stove-brewed Mello Joy in a mug cut with milk, this hit me where I live. Now excuse me while I go order a raspberry mocha...
