...but did ABC really, truly need to pre-empt a brand-new Boston Legal scheduled for tonight in order to provide it? Couldn't this have been done a lousy 90 minutes later on Nightline? Now I gotta wait another week to find out whether Alan helps the lady who asks him to tell her how to get away with murder (literally)...and whether he and his leggy new lady-lawyer coworker can learn to keep their mitts off one another. Grump.

Especially since most folks these days can probably get more useful news by surfing to the LA Times website or one of the local TV stations. Or just check their friends' LJ/Facebook/Myspace pages...

Also, "news" programs tend to string along listeners and delay any useful information ("Space aliens have landed near one of our local landmarks and obliterated it with heat rays... more after this Word From Our Sponsor....")

I'm glad I wasn't the only one a little annoyed over this. On the other hand, I was able to manage an appropriate distraction, so it wasn't too annoying.

I'm sorry. I don't care what show gets pre-empted when I have close family that is affected.

I have an Aunt and Uncle that live in Lagona Hills CA. They've been evacuated and don't know if they have a home to come home too.

What [livejournal.com profile] tovahs said. I have friends in San Diego and Riverside Counties who are affected, and I don't know whether or not they have evacuated, or will have homes to return to.

So, yes, it's breaking news. The show should be pre-empted.

Yes, but do you know anymore, now, about THEIR situation than you did before?

Damn straight! I was pissed off, too. I know this is a horrible time for the people in California, and I'm not unsympathetic. I, too, have friends in the area. However, from what I could tell by watching the special, they didn't actually give any helpful information. The entire show was a repetition of what anyone who had watched the news for the last 24 hours already knew.

In times of crisis, sometimes distractions become even more important to the public health. I am stuck on the east coast. I cannot do anything but worry myself into serious illness. I need a distraction, dammit!

Exercising Choice

It's a TV network with one foot in NYC and one foot in LA. If LA is getting a hot foot, of course they're gonna shout about it. I used the pre-emption as my excuse of the week to catch "Cane" with Jimmy Smits. This season there have been too many nights where I've had to view one/tape one/miss one becuase good shows all compete for the same time window. Online viewing is helping to narrow the gap, but there's a lot of interesting stuff out there right now.
