Anyone time-shifting should not look back of the cut; but I simply had to post my own observations. Some satisfying stuff, sure, but also some just plain baffling:
  • Poor, poor Hiro... Finding his samurai hero in the flesh in 17th-century feudal Japan, only to learn the guy's a gaijin—an Englishman—and has feet of clay. And just wait 'til he gets back to the present and finds out his dad got whacked while he was gone (at least apparently...unless old man Kaito has Claire-level healing powers to go with his fighting mastery). Of all the Heroes, he seems to have gotten the rawest deal this season. (And no more George Takei? Waah!)
  • Officer Parkman survives four, count 'em, four bullets to the chest (at point-blank range, mind you) in Season One's finale...and no explanation in the Season Two premiere at all?!? WTF, over? Even if you accept that the bullets didn't do sufficient muscle/organ damage to kill him, how astronomical is the statistical likelihood that not one of those bullets pierced his heart? Or was he wearing armor at the time under his shirt? Not that I'm not thrilled to see him live, but c'mon, Tim, explanations, please—not just a passing mention. Even a "Thank God for Kevlar!" would've satisfied me.

  • Noah Bennet attacks his manager at the copy store (however understandable the provocation, given the little prick's behavior) and says he's basically gonna do whatever the fuck he wants on the job...and doesn't get fired and/or hauled off by the police on an assault charge? Again, suspension of disbelief only goes so far.

  • What happened to Nathan Petrelli's landslide victory in the election? He's living in some walkup and drinking himself into a stupor instead of serving in Congress? Did someone figure out what the kid did to rig the vote? Did Mama Petrelli, that evil cunt, sabotage him herself? What?

  • And WHERE IN GOD'S NAME IS PETER PETRELLI???
On the plus side:
  • Good to see Claire stand up to those sadistic bitches on the cheer squad at her new school. I can already see war brewing between her and the blonde head cheerleader.

  • And how about her new buddy West? (Is that his first name or surname? And why not just hang a neon sign over him flashing, "LOVE INTEREST"? Could we have been any more obvious?) Looks like Nathan's not the only one who can fly (I was wondering if powers recurred in the Heroes universe).

  • Also good to see Maya give those two coyotes what they deserved for trying to mess with her. Too bad she couldn't keep from killing all the others in the truck, too...

  • And it looks an awful lot like our boy Hiro is gonna end up forging the legend of Kensei all by himself (okay, with a bit of help from that spitfire of a swordsmith's daughter). Banzai!

Huh? That didn't look anything like Pete...not as I recall, anyhow. Nor sound like him. Are you suggesting his appearance has been modified somehow?

That's Peter. I'm virtually sure of it.

Yeah, that was Peter. Yay. I figured he'd show up in the final frame. When he didn't end up being the guy outside Claire's window in the tree (it was Claire's new flying boyfriend, instead!) I knew he'd show up in Ireland :).

I'm content to give a few weeks for the second season to settle in. I liked what I saw.

I thought that might be he, too, at first. And even when it was still West, I wondered if maybe West wasn't a cover. But...

I totally called it. The second we saw West, I shouted to my friends, "He's totally got to be the love interest... AND $20 says he's got powers."

By the way, how like a teenage boy... I've got superpowers and the best use I can think of is spying on a cheerleader. Oy. Honestly. Still, he's a cutie and he seems to be a geek. So far, I approve.

We never did find out Kaito's power. I bet he lives.

Can't wait to see Sylar. I totally have a crush on Zach Quinto. Can't help but love the bad guys.

Noah was a badass. Love him.

WTF with Nathan and Ma Petrelli?!!! I want that bitch dead.

Where were Nicki and Micah? Did we ever see them? I forget.

Skylar? Wasn't he killed at the end of Season 1?

What was going on with the 2 new people?

Think back to the very end of last spring's season-ending episode (well, the almost-end, before Hiro got dumped on the medieval battlefield): where Sylar's corpse was supposed to be, we saw a trail of blood leading to a manhole cover nearby. This was meant to make it blindingly obvious that Sylar survived, even if only barely, and crawled away. (Besides, he showed up in the preview scenes after last night's ep looking quite hale and hearty.)

Check out the webcomic on NBC's official HEROES site for more on Maya & Alejandro's backstory.

Agreed, Noah's not being canned after his kick-ass soliloquy violates the laws of wage-reality; I'd not have even made it that far. Then again, this was also the debut night of "CHUCK", an even more improbable reality, but one I find strangedly entertaining.

And how about that embedded ad for the new Nissan Rogue? "ALIAS" used this technique as well, weaving the latest Ford model into the dialogue. I specifically remember Marshal going on about thinking about buying the kind of Ford Focus being used as a getaway car, and Papa Briscoe going on about his Escape Hybrid, "sometimes it pays to travel silently," or somesuch.

And now, to watch the "Prison Break" episode I taped last night.

Minor questions, but of interest:

Is the transmutation of elements specific (i.e., is it the Midas touch) or general (i.e., any substance to any other substance). Either way, it should cause a massive burst of radiation.

We've only previously seen duplication of powers via different routes (theft or borrowing). If there is duplication, does it imply genetic similarity, and does that imply blood relation?

Are we doing Heathers or Bad Girls here? :-)

***

Nathan Petrelli was outed as a super in saving the world. As I recall the political climate (not to mention the behind the scenes machinations surrounding his victory), that would have precluded his taking office. Or perhaps the fix was discovered.

We still don't know what Mama Petrelli or Kaito's powers are, though we can wager pretty certainly that they have them. It's a good bet that we'll see George Takei again this season. Alive, two gets you seven.

It's possible that Noah Bennet has a power in the neighborhood of intimidation, so that, backed up (or fronted by) his physical action, he was able to put the hoodoo on the idiot manager in a way that he CAN'T call the cops.

Must now go see Maya and Alejandro's backstory, at nbc.com.

Actually, I recognized the "walkup" that Nathan and Mama Petrelli were in as Peter's old apartment, which the Petrelli family presumably has the resources to keep paying the rent for, even 4 months later.

And Claire's new would-be suitor has her biological daddy's ability. Yup, I was wondering "close relative?" myself.
