IN MEMORIAM
"So keep fightin' for freedom and justice, beloveds, but don't you forget to have fun doin' it. Lord, let your laughter ring forth. Be outrageous, ridicule the fraidy-cats, rejoice in all the oddities that freedom can produce. And when you get through kickin' ass and celebratin' the sheer joy of a good fight, be sure to tell those who come after how much fun it was." - Mary Tyler "Molly" Ivins, 1944-2007

darrenzieger - if you need killer web design, see this guy!). I cannot imagine a better tribute to Molly's memory than these, her own words. She passed away back in January, and both journalism and the political discourse are the poorer for losing her...and the richer for her having been in them.
And as for a personal creed for activism...you could do a whole helluva lot worse, seems to me.

Date: 2007-09-17 02:43 am (UTC)I love that quote. I actually teared up a little bit as I was typing it in.
I was crushed when she died - I knew she'd been ill, but I was under the impression that she'd gone into remission and was stable.
Molly was one of my heroes, and got a really raw deal on the whole time-on-earth thing. When she passed, mostly without fanfare in the midst of the Anna Nicole Smith media necrophilia frenzy, I kept thinking of the death of Charlotte in Charlotte's Web. No one noticed...
Ah well. In the words of another fallen hero of mine, "so it goes."
