Democrats: Petraeus' Plan Means 10 More Years of War
We didn't have any business invading in the first place. We don't have any business being there now. Surely even Junior Bush knows the American people will not stand for another entire decade of this; gods know I won't.

What make you think the population won't eat shit and like it for the next ten years?
You are not the template.

Everything I've heard indicates that majority public sentiment is already against our remaining entangled in this military and political tar-baby of a country. Am I misinformed?

The vast majority of American voters are against this. However, if recent past performance is any indicator and if certain speculations are to be believes, the current pResident intends to make this a lifelong office for himself. If keeping our troops embroiled in a distant part of the globe helps him achieve this he is perhaps setting up a scenario that might enable him to pull a move to eliminate any future elective processes from the public agenda.

BTW, the Secret Service is sworn to the constitution, not to the president, correct?...

Every measure of public opinion I've seen indicates that national patience with this mess is running out -- hence, the administration's increasingly desperate efforts at spin control.

Yeah, except that I'm supporting Richardson.
I'm 52 and tired of holding my nose come election day.
I intend to vote Green if it comes down to a choice between a Republican and "Hilarity".

That's cool. I'm just ready for a regime change. I hope everyone gets out and votes, come Hill or high water.

Excuse me. Who said ten years?

I don't think it was General Patreus, and I know it wasn't the administration. It's called a straw man. Set it up so you can knock it down.

As for polls, the ones which are not blatantly biased have the numbers at about fifty-fifty. That's a problem as it is without distorting it. It means that the tug of war(pardon the pun) is unlikely to move the flag to either side of the mudpit any time soon.

What the real majority sentiment is against is the way we have only half-fought the campaign until recently, and you can count me among those in the opposition on that account too.

However, now that we are actually fighting to win and remaining in the areas that we liberate so as to maintain the gains, it is deeply unlikely that we will be at war for another decade in Iraq. Read the General's report for yourselves and stop listening solely to the talking heads w/ agenda. Don't believe those who try to paint an eminently qualified, career soldier as an administration lackey. He knows this administration only has about a year left, and is unlikely to risk his reputation in such a short term manner.

Believe that he's mistaken if you think you know better he, but don't question his intentions or fidelity. He has served this country well and faithfully, and THAT is his intent.

There's an old story about two guys pursued by a bear. "Think we can outrun him?" pants one. "Dunno but all *I* have to do is outrun YOU."... I think the Shrub is attempting to run out the clock, and stick the Democrats with the butcher's bill and as much of the blame as possible. (Or in the unlikely event of a Republican victory, at least the next adminstration.)

And never mind that people are dying. At least I gather they're having the sense to do the right thing (fix and build stuff) in Afghanistan. That, too, is dangerous but it's a far better approach to actually doing something that'll make things better than they were before.
