Elegantly extracted from [profile] evawhitley:
Four jobs I’ve had in my life:
  • Ice-cream scooper, Baskin-Robbins 31 Flavors shop in the town of my birth, Lafayette, LA, my first real paying job at 16
  • Dish cleaner in a campus cafeteria at my alma mater, Louisiana State University, my first fall semester (the monotony of clearing used food off plates and sending them down the line to the washing machines for hours on end was responsible for lots of my early filk-music output)
  • Sketch artist in a sign shop in New Orleans, Graffiti Graphics (my first full-time job out of college with newly minted BFA in hand, in 1985-86)
  • Junior creative at a now-defunct New York, NY advertising agency, The Alden Group, 1996-1998 (the first time I actually got to have the kind of job I'd been shooting for, over a decade prior, when I left college)
Four of my favorite movies:
  • Time After Time (1978) - see imdb.com page here. Malcolm McDowell, way younger and before he got typecast as baddies, with genre stalwart David Warner and the agelessly beautiful Mary Steenburgen. H.G. Wells actually builds his fictional time machine, only to have it stolen by none other than Jack the Ripper. He chases the killer to 1978 San Francisco and falls in love with a modern American gal. (Trivia note: The writers actually did the research and found the real Wells' second and final wife was named Amy Robbins.)
  • Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (1988) - see here The most incredible integration of live actors and animation since Disney's Fantasia...and the most delectably luscious cartoon babe since Tex Avery's Red Hot Riding Hood, Jessica Rabbit.
  • Aliens (1987) - see here. Sigourney Weaver in full-on, exo-armored, protective-mama-bear mode as WO Ellen Ripley, last survivor of the Nostromo, against the Alien Queen herownbadself. James Cameron directing. Jennette Goldstein as the female Marine Vasquez. (Male soldier: "Hey, Vasquez, you ever been mistaken for a man?" Vasquez: "No. Have you?") A platoon of macho ground-pounders and their sergeant getting picked off one by one by a whole horde of the creatures like the one that decimated Ripley's crewmates. What's not to like?
  • Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1984) - see here. Best. Trek. Film. EVAR. 'Nuff said.
Four places that I have lived:
  • New Orleans, LA, 1985-89
  • Washington, DC suburbs (Arlington/Rosslyn, VA and Rockville, MD), 1989-96
  • New York, NY, 1996-2002
  • Philadelphia, PA, 2002-03
Four of my favorite foods:
  • Steak, medium rare, with A-1 sauce. (Yeah, I know, most chefs consider adding A-1 or any steak sauce an insult to their cooking, and I don't give one-tenth of one shit.)
  • Macaroni and cheese. (I'm a southern boy; what can I tell ya?)
  • Coconut shrimp. (with either orange marmalade or coconut dipping sauce)
  • Dark chocolate and mint anything (especially ice cream; I'm an absolute, total whore for Häagen-Dazs' M&DC bars -- please use this knowledge only for good).
Four places I would rather be right now, in order of preference:
  • With my Songbird in Nairobi
  • At the Yokohama Worldcon dead-dog party (ideally, with SB)
  • Living on the Moon or Mars, even if only for a few weeks or months
  • At the next con where good filking will be happening (OVFF, anyone?)
Four people I think will respond (that's not a demand, guys, just an estimation based on most frequent posters to my LJ):
