Belated b-day wish
Jul. 29th, 2007 11:46 amAbject apologies galore to
stevemb for not posting him the old hippo, birdie and two ewes on his birthday, nine days ago (7/20). Many happy returns to you, and thanks for your friendship and kindness. (One hopes your lovely wife
starmalachite gave you a suitable party...or at least a nice present. [nudge, nudge, wink, wink...])
Steve is one of those people in SF/F fandom (and especially in filk) who, without calling attention to or demanding it for themselves, work harder than anyone else to help out at conventions, club meetings, and outside of events to do all the mundane (you should pardon the expression) tasks that must be done so the rest of us can enjoy the fun. I have watched him do this for at least 1.5 decades now without complaint, and if I have not told him how much I appreciate and respect him for his efforts, let him consider himself now publicly acknowledged.
From bringing his own personal photocopier to filk room sessions for use by all assembled to helping clean up afterward to working in registration or con suite or other convention departments, he has been among those who can rightfully be considered fandom's backbone (not to mention its muscle, brains, heart and possibly even pancreas). I am pleased and proud to call him friend...and not just here on LJ. (And his wife ain't no slouch, either!) He deserves one hell of a lot more recognition than he gets; here's hoping all the people who showed up (or stayed after Conterpoint) for his wedding last month are a sign that he's finally starting to get it.
