Just saw the film of Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix and....wow. Just...WOW. More commentary when I have a chance to digest it. (I really do need to sit down with the books and read them; I've been told I miss so much only having seen the movies, and after a peek into the book on which OOTP was based, I have to agree.)

The film didn't seem any longer to me than any of its four predecessors; but then, I've gotten used to HP films being at least one bathroom break's necessity in length.

I totally agree. How can you put a 800 page book into a 2.15min movie? By not reading the books, you miss a whole lot of the back story behind the characters.

This may not necessarily always be a bad thing; for example, the sequence at the end of the film, when Dumbledore is in Harry's quarters talking to him, goes on for 10 pages (!!) in the book. *I* barely had the patience to read him nattering on and on explaining to Harry why he did what he did, and I doubt most film audiences would have had the patience even for half of that being included in the script. However talented Ms. Rowling may be, she could stand to be a tad more concise in her prose. (Yeah, I know, this from Mr. Never-Use-One-Word-When-Ten-Will-Do himself? But at least I recognize my own long-windedness.)
