In this, the year of our Lord two thousand and seven, and of the independence of these United States the two hundred and thirty-first, I was trying to find something suitably patriotic (by my own ornery, liberal, iconoclastic lights) to post. Then my friend
mdlbear did me the favor (thanks, bud!) of posting this link to one of his friends' journals, which annotates the Declaration of Independence in such a way as to point up the alarming similarities between the actions of the British-born ruler named George whose tyranny begat the Revolutionary War and the home-grown one under whose tyranny we languish today. I read it and realized I could offer nothing much better of my own (except maybe this song I wrote a few years ago), so I point you likewise to
ravan instead. Good on ya, fellow American, and happy Independence Day.
