Moved at last
Jul. 3rd, 2007 02:21 pmYesterday I finally got myself and the felines moved into the new apartment, cleaned out the old one and returned the key. I ended up doing what I should have done to begin with—rented a 14' truck to haul the last of my belongings out in one swell foop. (Memo to self: Never, EVER again attempt moving half your entire worldly goods by yourself in one afternoon! My fingertips hurt, along with everything else, plus a sunburn and a general feeling of having been stomped on by each member of a 20-mule team in succession. Thanks to Alice Tinkley for the help on Sunday and the loan of the hand truck.)
Now I just have to get the furniture reassembled, get the two female cats and several boxes of stuff shipped off to the Songbird in Kenya, finish unpacking all the boxes of my own stuff and putting everything in its place. With any luck at all, by the end of next week I should have the place looking less like a warehouse and more like a home. The new apartment is below ground, with sliding doors in front facing a wall and staircase and a smaller window to the rear each in the kitchen and bedroom. For the second time in my adult life, I find myself living in a dark cave underground; in the bright, hot summer weather, this may actually be a good thing (especially with central AC).

figmo, both born on the Fourth of July. Hope it's fun for you both; my Independence Day will likely be spent de-boxing my home, with perhaps an evening's interlude at the Lenox Square fireworks display after dark.

Date: 2007-07-03 06:33 pm (UTC)(How do I remember The Boss' birthday? I went to see a game on 4 July, you see; I was in the bleachers for the parachutist and Chuck Mangione's Star-Spangled Banner, but capping the natal festivities was a no-hitter thrown by the Yankees' Dave Righetti. Cost me some sunburn, but it was well worth it.)

And the U.S.A.
(I could have sworn Louis Armstrong was born on July 4, too, but apparently I was wrong; it was August 4th.)
