Checklist for moving
Jun. 28th, 2007 11:49 amAt the suggestion of
netpositive (thanks, hon!), I am posting this for myself (and anyone who cares) to keep track of the progress of Operation Packout (AKA my impending move). Each will be crossed out when done.
-File change-of-address request with U.S. Postal Service
-Notify bank, credit card issuers of change of address
-Call Alice for help with moving
-Request change of address on driver's license
-Pay deposits and 1st month's rent, sign lease, pick up keys to new apartment (get money orders from bank for same)
-Arrange for professional cleaning of old apartment (ended up doing it myself)
-Pack all remaining loose items in boxes (in progress)
-Deliver giveaway items to Goodwill (get receipt!)
-Transfer accounts for utilities: electric, gas, phone/DSL, cable
- Print new business cards with changed address
- Update résumé with new address, send to all temp agencies
-Discuss w/Songbird closing out EarthLink email/web accounts and transferring them to AT&T (paying bills to two ISPs each month when I only really need one seems really financially dumb-assed about now)
-Pack all contents of bookcases in boxes, take apart bookcases
-Take down all mounted shelving (office, hall closet)
-Spackle all wall holes in old apt. (buy spackle)
-Clean out refrigerator, fix crack in bottom shelf (not fixed - no time)
-Change newspaper delivery to new address
- Notify magazine publishers to change address on subscriptions
Any suggestions for omitted items welcome.

Date: 2007-06-28 04:18 pm (UTC)The one thing I might suggest is to move the biggest, the most directly money-related items (stuff like pay deposit & transfer utilities) to the top of your list. So you can't lose track of key items on which everything else kinda depends. Magazine publishers can wait a day or two - air conditioning can't. :)
Glad to be able to help you even a little -- sorry I'm not local or I'd help out with the actual move.
