Convention detention

All over my f-list, people are writing about the nifty SF or other conventions they're getting ready to attend this weekend: Marcon, Baycon, my long-beloved Balticon...

And neither I nor the Songbird can go to a one of 'em because of (a) my ever-dwindling funds due to continued unemployment, and (b) the frantic rush to sort our stuff and separate hers from mine and hers for air shipment, hers for sea shipment and hers for storage before the movers come on Tuesday and Wednesday.

And I could have even had a birthday party on Saturday at Balticon, with lots of my friends around to attend.

I know there are lots of folks way worse off than me, but right now my life seems to me a vast expanse of suckage.

Grrr.

I can commiserate. Not only are we not at a cool con this weekend, we've pretty much ruled out any chance of going to Conterpoint, which hurts triply.

This is my first con since Philcon of last year, and is likely my last con until Capclave. I remember when I did around 10 cons a year, and now I'm lucky if I go to 3.

And it would probably be Balticon, and that's it, if I didn't have Mirage Press royalties to finance my con-going. (You would think, out of 50 books, that there would be enough Jack Chalker royalties to cover a weekend con, but, nope, haven't seen a cent from them in several months. In fact, I swear the last several royalty statements had negative sales.)

I wish you were having a birthday at Balticon, too. I'd even spring for a cake from the Amish market around the corner from the con hotel.

We're home for the long weekend, too, alas. May get out to see the Spiderman movie, though. Hope we'll be seeing you at Conterpoint, at least.

I just got back from delivering the Bohnhoffs (this year's filk GOHs) from Dulles Airport to the Balticon hotel.

autographedcat, so sorry we won't be seeing you two at Conterpoint. You'll be missed.

thatcrazycajun, sorry you can't make Balticon, but we'll still see you next month. Fingers crossed for the various job prospects!

evawhitley, glad you can make it and love the license plate. I've got VA Langley Space Center plates (with the NASA meatball logo) that say FILK.

Rest easy; you're not alone by a lot. We also are not at any of the cons this weekend; it's designated as Clean Up and Laundry weekend. Because otherwise a tidal wave of laundry and Stuff will wash us right out the door. (Oh, and I might make a trip to Home Depot to see if I can get air conditioner braces, the landlord having given us notice that we have 30 days to get them installed or the ACs down. Now THAT's exciting! :-(
