As reported here by our local paper, several reputable scientists attempted to drag Congressional Republicans' heads out of the sand this week in a House hearing on the clear and present danger to human life as well as flora and fauna posed by climate change resulting from human pollution. Naturally, the GOP stalwarts resisted, as good friends of Big Business will, any suggestion that the mess industry made should have anything serious done about it by those who made it, or that government should take any action that would require them to do so. Witness this statement from Rep. James Senseless-brainer Sensenbrenner (R-WI):
"The title of today's hearing sounds a little like a scary movie: 'Dangerous Climate Change!' We've seen this film before. It stars industrialized society, a character who improves the livelihood of billions of humans by providing them with vital jobs and services. But in this movie, industry is actually the villain, with an evil plan to destroy the Earth with invisible, odorless gases."
Not that I'm surprised; this tool and his Senate doppelganger, JamesInbred Inhofe of Oklahoma, have long demonstrated themselves to be the chief right-wing ideologues of the post-Newt Gingrich Congressional GOP on stuff like this. (Having lived in Oklahoma as a kid, I know it to be a Southern state in political philosophy as well as geography, but one would have thought Midwesterners had better sense than to join them in sending Tweedledum and Tweedledumber to Congress.) But it still irritates me that even with Democrats in charge, they still can't bounce this twerp off a key committee. To borrow
filkertom's line, The Evil Fucks Just Never Stop.
Therefore, Rep. Sensenbrenner, you are hereby awarded this week's official STTL Rap on the Knuckles™, to be administered by Sister Mary Louise Lagneaux, former headmistress at St. Genevieve Catholic Middle School in the town of my birth, Lafayette, LA. Sister Mary, the ruler, if you please...
But there is hope. California's Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer, now chair of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, slapped down Inhofe recently but good when he repeatedly forgot he wasn't chair anymore and tried to shout down former Senate colleague and Veep Al Gore, as U.S. News & World Report informs us here.
Now all we need to do is get a few more Dems into the Senate next year and do something about that pesky whisker-thin margin of party-line votes...not to mention a Dem President who won't veto them.

WHAP! WHAP!! WHAP!!! (sound of screams, followed by soft whimpering in pain)

Date: 2007-04-28 01:52 pm (UTC)He has to have some committee appointments, and having a decent amount of seniority, gets better jobs. I'm also not certain whether the Dems have any say over Republican committee allotment at all, save for the numbers. (That is, they may well say "this committee has 15 Dems and 14 Reps", not "Here are the 15 Dems and 14 Reps on this committee.")
Either way, yes, he's a putz, and it's a shame a nice state like Wisconsin keeps electing him. Then again, that could change, next time he's up for reelection...
corrections worthy of the good Sisters who raised us up from the idiocy we suffer of our so-called l

Secondly, Sister is abbreviated "Sr."- like 'senior' ---"St." is Saint or Street.....so it should be the Official SrKR; for the "Sister Knuckle Rapper".
And, May I do the honors, Please??
