As I finally get back online for the first time since Saturday last, after a weekend of disrupted phone and Internet service due to a vehicular collision with a utility pole outside our house (not our vehicle, thanks be to God under all Her many names), I find utterly flabbergasting news. They say God never gives us more than we can handle; if that's true, She must think my old and dear friend
wcg (known to a select few of us as The Marine at the End of the Bar) is frickin' Superman.
Less than two years after losing his dear wife Paula to a sudden stroke, and his mother before that to illness, he has now also lost their daughter Amanda to as-yet-unspecified causes at the age of only 33. He apparently went to her room yesterday morning to wake her and found her lying still in bed, with neither breath nor pulse. His LJ and Dreamwidth pages contain more details.
My heart, thoughts and prayers are with him, as are my dear Songbird's, and those of many, many others. Nobody deserves this much bad luck in such a short time, certainly not someone as good and giving and loving a friend, husband and father as Bill...and no parent should ever have to bury their own child. Their family roots are in East Texas, where my step-dad's are also and where my late mother lived out her last couple of decades. Sarge, please know we are at your disposal should there be anything we can do to help you get through yet another unimaginably difficult time.
Update, 2/11/2014, 1:09p EST: Bill and Amanda's sister Grace have announced funeral arrangements for Amanda on Facebook. She will be laid to rest Thursday in Pasadena, MD. The funeral home's memorial page for her is here.
