With most profuse thanks to [livejournal.com profile] marcgunn, late of the Brobdingnagian Bards, for the heads-up: It's always delightful to see one of your favorite musical artists parody themselves, which happens all too rarely. It's also fun to find out one of your faves shares your political views. To have both happen at once, with the same artist? Total musico-political ecstasy.

I'm talking about Julie Brown, the curvy, redheaded actress-singer who made the 1980s just that extra little bit sillier with songs like "'Cause I'm A Blonde" and "Earth Girls Are Easy," the latter of which inspired an even goofier movie starring Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis. (Not, by the by, to be confused with the much darker-skinned and less talented former MTV veejay "Downtown" Julie Brown.) Julie has gone back to her signature tune, "The Homecoming Queen's Got A Gun," and re-recorded it with brand-new lyrics about everyone's favorite beauty-queen-turned-GOP-sock-puppet, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. The result can be accessed through her website, JulieBrown.com, and Marc has been kind enough to post the lyrics on his own page:
The Ex-Beauty Queen's Got A Gun

You must purchase a copy of the MP3 track in order to listen, but it's worth the trivial cost—trust me on this one. And in case you are by some chance unfamiliar with the original song, Marc has even linked to a YouTube copy of its music video. This is the first time I can remember Julie having anything to say publicly about politics, and I'm thrilled beyond words to discover someone of her talent on our side.

Waiting to board the plane at Hartsfield-Jackson. Arriving in Amsterdam 7:45 AM. No required passage through customs, lines at bag check and TSA screenings very light. My farthest voyage ever begins..
