filkertom, Australian-born actor Heath Ledger has quite suddenly dropped dead in his New York, NY apartment of what appears to be an unexpected heart attack (not that there's really any other kind, I know). CNN.com reports the startling tragedy here.
An Academy Award nominee for his groundbreaking role as one of the two gay cowboys in Ang Lee's critically-acclaimed film Brokeback Mountain, the poor kid had just finished lensing his role as the Joker in The Dark Knight, a sequel to Batman Begins due out this summer. He was only 28 years old. Wikipedia's page on him quotes the New York Times as reporting that police found pills near his body, so evidently suicide has not as yet been ruled out as a cause of death.
The hearts, thoughts and prayers of all of us at STTL go out to the family, friends, coworkers, colleagues and fans of Mr. Ledger at this most difficult hour. Just goes to show ya, one can never know when one will get that final call, no matter how young, successful, healthy and happy one is or what is going on. In the immortal words of the late British comedian Benny Hill, "Always live each day as if it were your last...because one day, you'll be right!"
