Police came by yesterday afternoon, asked questions, gave me a code to get a police report in a couple days. Put up signs at the mail center asking for backpack's return, no questions asked. Hard to see affording to offer a reward, but will if no response comes in a few days. Have changed the most important online passwords; too many were stored in my web browser on the laptop, and I will keep changing more as I can.

Must call insurance company to verify Rx coverage, doctor to see about new prescription, one or two others. Praying that whoever stole it does not use its information to bring some fresh hell into my or my Songbird's life. Living with the fear, numbing it with SF reading. (Some use drink or drugs; I use books.) Hardly feel like eating, drinking little but water. Feeling very traumatized, angry at myself for absent-mindedness and stupidity, trying desperately to keep perspective—they were only things, and things can be replaced; I still have life, limb and reasonable health, a roof, clothing and food, and gainful employment. And all of it alone, so alone. (I don't even know any of the neighbors in my own building.) Could barely drag myself out in time to get laundry done soon enough that I wasn't out past midnight.

But it is still hard to make myself do what must be done. I shall need support, even if only moral, from any who care. Again, please bear with me.

More bad news: LSU didn't make it into the Sugar Bowl, despite being this year's SEC champions; that will be Georgia and Hawaii. The good news: they will get to play for the national championship just six days later, against Big 10 champs Ohio State. At least somebody still has some things going well for them.

BusinessWeek's take on the just-announced sale of LiveJournal to Russian firm SUP is online here. Makes it sound like LJ was an albatross around Six Apart's neck, both financially and perceptually.

Maybe when the Songbird and I stop off in the Crescent City later this month, what we see there won't make me cry like it has the past couple of years.
