RIAA Continues to Play Litigation Whack-A-Mole with File-Sharing Sites
Courtesy of TechDirt.com. Looks like the suits still haven't caught the clue bus yet.

Bush Vows Repeat Veto As Congress Debates 3rd SCHIP Funding Bill
Courtesy of NPR's Morning Edition. Forget expanding "government health care"—Junior won't even allow funding to keep up with the kids who're already in the program! Fucking twit.

Buffy Creator Whedon, Former Star Dushku in New Sci-Fi Series On Fox

With thanks to [personal profile] scifantasy for the tip. That's right, folks: Faith's back, and Joss has got her again! Maybe Fox will treat them better this time... (Yeah, right, that's what abused partners always say.)

Wall Street Analyst Believes Apple's Mac Market Share May Be On the Rise
Two million copies of OS X Leopard sold already. In just the first weekend. (Mine was one of them.) Who's your daddy, Vista? Now they need to watch out for Google going after the iPhone...

(Upgrade Update: Last night my Wacom tablet's cordless mouse started getting squirrely after two days of normal operation under Leopard. Happily, Wacom already has a new driver updated for Leopard on their website, which fixed the problem without my even having to restart. Nice tech company, good tech company. Have a cookie.)

Last night saw the resumption of [personal profile] autographedcat and [personal profile] kitanzi's weekly Movie Night—although they are now considering reducing its frequency to monthly, given that I was the only one who showed up and that turnout has been small most weeks so far. We watched The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, 20th Century-Fox's shameless bastardization adaptation of the 1999-2000 limited-series comic book by Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill.

...or so seems to believe Judge Michael Mukasey, our Maximum Leader's latest appointment nominee to fill the slot left vacant by the unlamented Alberto "Gonzo" Gonzales. (See article here.)

Your Honor, anyone reading the citations on this page knows everything they need to know in order to decide whether waterboarding is illegal, or whether it constitutes torture. You don't need any special military or CIA briefings to decide this; no one does...certainly not someone who harbors any hope of serving as Attorney General when the last one was shown the door, in part, over this very issue. And Mr. Bush, trust me, you're long past the point where you should be worrying about whether "the enemy" finds out we use this technique; that cat went extra-bagular over a year ago, minimum.

No official of the United States Government should ever—ever—condone or authorize an interrogation technique recognized by both law around the world and by plain old common sense as torture. No officer of the U.S. armed forces or law enforcement agencies should be employing torture. And no one should be nominated by a President, or confirmed by the Senate, to any such high position who refuses to categorically state that s/he recognizes this. Period. Paragraph.

E-mailed to me by a fannish friend, this quiz tallies your positions on the issues and the level of importance to you of each issue, and tells you which of the announced candidates for the 2008 presidential nominations of both parties is closest to your worldview in their platform.
