...because of its cartoonist's clear implication that the organization to which I belong, MoveOn.org, has stooped or will stoop to unscrupulous, sleazy or unfair public statements in its campaign for liberal/Democratic candidates and policies. But the trouble with the format is that it does not lend itself to Ms. Benson's providing specific examples of such alleged behavior on MoveOn's part, in the way a written commentary would. If this is a reaction to the group's recent full-page newspaper ad regarding the Congressional report of Gen. David Petraeus on the Iraq troop surge (I personally found the ad's tone a bit shrill, even though I do believe that Petraeus and his report are being used as propaganda tools by the Bush Regime), it would have been nice of her to say so in some fashion.

What do you think? Is she right? Absent concrete proof of any untoward statements/actions, I think she's letting her partisanship get in the way of fact. On the other hand, it may well be an indication that MoveOn is doing a fair-to-good job of its mission—i.e., giving voice to and mobilizing liberal Dems like me—if a right-winger is made angry enough at them to come up with something like this.

A very happy birthday to one of my favorite "cunning linguists," [personal profile] joyeuse13! She and her husband have made our sojourn in the City Too Busy to Hate (and Too Traffic-Choked to Move) far more pleasant, especially since my Songbird skipped the country. They also help make the filk scene more vibrant in this town, by hosting housefilks, singing, writing and generally helping out. You both are blessings in my life, and I thank God under all Her many names for it.

Google and X Prize folks fund new contest for Moon landing by robots
I'd feel loads better about this if they weren't emphasizing only robotic exploration of the Moon. Perhaps they see this as a necessary first step to humans returning...but I'd still prefer to see them skip that stage and offer a cash prize for a crewed landing.

Just so y'all don't think Lunarites is the only thing you're gonna be getting in these Fanfic Sampler thingies, here's one I wrote awhile back starring my two favorite characters from the animated Disney Channel hit series Kim Possible. Should be work- and kid-safe; no sex, just intense character development and a smidgen of gore. (And it's even founded in canon; Shego's purposely saved Kim's life at least once on the show.)

In this scene, a major (and far more vicious than most) new villain has escaped after battling Our Heroine and leaving her for dead, far from any possible medical help...and Shego, once again unwillingly allied with her chief nemesis, faces a fateful decision.
