Regulars will recall the discussion of a few days ago in this space and over on
filkertom's page about animated Christmas TV specials, and that I mentioned my favorite of the Rankin-Bass series was and remains Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Well, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports today here that the actual wood, wool and wire sculpture of His Antlered Roseacity that was used to animate the show 40-some-odd years ago will be on display at the Center for Puppetry Arts here in Atlanta until 7 January.
According to the story, this Rudolph puppet is the only one of three to have survived the ravages of time and an R-B employee's kids who got them after the filming was done. A Santa Claus figure used in production will also be displayed in the exhibit. Today they are insured for over 100 large and kept in a bank vault when not on show. Not a bad come-up in the world since being born a "misfit," eh?
